Sri Lanka tea production for the period January-December 2019 totalled 300.1 M/kgs vis-à-vis 303.9 M/kgs of January-December 2018, showing a decrease of 3.8 M/kgs YOY. High Grown production for 2019 totalled 61.7 M/kgs vis-à-vis 63.7 M/kgs of January-December 2018 thus recording a decrease of 2.0 M/kgs.
Meanwhile, Mediums totalling 45.9 M/kgs have shown a marginal gain of 0.1 M/kgs vis-à-vis 45.8 M/kgs of January-December 2018, whilst Low Growns totalling 189.8 M/kgs have recorded a decline of 1.9 M/kgs vis-à-vis 191.7 M/kgs of January-December 2018. According to Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers
CTC production for the period January-December 2019 totalled 23.58 M/kgs, recording a decrease of 0.4 M/kgs vis-à-vis 24.0 M/kgs of January-December 2018.
High Grown production totalling 3.5 M/kgs for January-December 2019 has recorded a decrease of 0.2 M/kgs vis-à-vis 3.7 M/kgs of January-December 2018. Medium Growns totalling 8 M/kgs shows a decrease of 0.2 M/kgs vis-à-vis 8.2 M/kgs of January-December 2018, whilst Low Growns have remained static with January-December 2019 production recording 12.0 M/kgs.
When analyzing the respective elevational averages, High Growns totaling Rs. 535.86 have shown a significant decline of Rs. 41.37 vis-à-vis Rs. 577.23 of January 2019. It also shows a marginal decrease when compared to December 2019 average of Rs. 536.42. Medium Growns totaling Rs. 494.62 for January 2020 have shown a decrease of Rs. 18.54 vis-à-vis Rs. 513.16 of January 2019, whilst it shows a marginal gain of Rs. 6.38 when compared to December 2019 average of Rs. 488.24.
Meanwhile, Low Growns totaling Rs. 628.74 have shown an increase of Rs. 18.87 vis-à-vis Rs. 609.87 of January 2019. In the case of Low Growns, a gain of Rs. 08.96 is recorded vis-à-vis Rs. 619.78 of December 2019.
It is also relevant to note that the total average shows a marginal increase of 0.04 in USD terms compared to the corresponding month of 2019.
