Sri Lanka’s tea production for April 2024 totalled 21.46 m/kgs, recording a decline of 3.77 m/kgs vis-à-vis 25.23 m/kgs of April 2023. All elevations have shown a decrease in comparison with the corresponding month of 2023.
Compared to 23.24 m/kgs of April 2022, the corresponding month shows a decrease of 1.78 m/kgs and adverse weather was the main reason for this.
January-April 2024 cumulative production totalled 79.73 m/kgs, a decrease of 5.02 m/kgs vis-à-vis 84.75 m/kgs of January-April 2023, according to a media release from Forbes & Walker Research.
Compared to the corresponding period in 2023, high and low elevations have shown negative variances, while mid grown elevation recorded a marginal growth this year.
Compared to 86.58 m/kgs of January-April 2022, cumulative production of 2024 shows a decrease of 6.85 m/kgs. On a cumulative basis, all elevations have shown a decrease over the corresponding period of 2022.
