History of Ceylon Tea

I started as a creeper in 1959 on Diyagama East Estate, Agrapatna District, under David Sanders as the Superintendent. This was followed with a posting as Asst. Superintendent on Gonapitiya Estate, Maturata, a large estate with three Asst. Superintendents and Arnold Helling as Superintendent. On completion of four years I went on six months paid home-leave with no intention of returning to now Sri Lanka. I however did in fact return with a two year contract as Factory Manager of a pilot project - CeyTea Limited with a factory in the Agrapatna district to produce an instant tea. It was a joint German development aid/German company financed project.  At the end of my two year contact I returned to Europe.
